When the seasonal changeover is finished, the other set still needs a suitable place to stay. Whether you keep it at home or leave it with a shop, tire care and storage terms deserve a little attention before you hand over the keys.
Care before storage
Michelin recommends cleaning and drying tires before storage and keeping them in a cool, clean, dry indoor space, away from sunlight, heat and substances that can damage rubber. Check your tire manufacturer's instructions as well.
Mounted and unmounted tires are stored differently. Michelin advises stacking or hanging tires mounted on rims, while unmounted tires should stand upright and should not be stacked or hung. Ask the provider how your particular set will be stored.
Agree on the terms
Confirm how many tires or wheel and tire assemblies the price covers and how long the storage period lasts. Ask whether collection, a future changeover or an extended storage period costs extra.
Request a receipt that identifies the set and records any existing damage. Keep your own photos and the provider's contact details. Ask how much notice is needed for collection and what happens if you change shops or collect the tires later than planned.
Ask about the storage conditions and review the written terms for loss, damage, renewal and collection. Having those details together makes it easier to plan your next changeover.
At the next changeover, have the tires checked for condition and suitability before installation.
