A seasonal tire appointment starts with a simple question: are the tires you want installed already mounted on their own wheels? That detail tells the shop which work you need. A lower advertised price is not much help if it covers a different service.
Two sets of wheels or one?
An on rim changeover swaps complete wheel and tire assemblies. With an off rim changeover, tires are removed from the wheels and the other set is mounted. Tell the shop which setup you have when asking for an estimate.
Mounting, balancing and alignment describe different work. Balancing addresses weight distribution in a wheel and tire assembly. Alignment adjusts wheel angles to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. Do not assume an alignment is included in a seasonal changeover or needed simply because the season has changed.
Check the whole service
Ask whether the estimate covers the full set, mounting where needed, balancing, valves and any tire pressure sensor work. Confirm taxes and additional charges. If a shop recommends extra work, ask what inspection finding supports it and what it costs before authorizing it.
Have your vehicle's year, make and model ready, along with the tire sizes and whether both sets have wheels. Some vehicles use different front and rear sizes, so provide both where applicable. Mention locking wheel nuts and bring the key if your vehicle uses them.
If you are considering a second set of wheels, request the combined cost of compatible wheels, any required sensors and future changeovers.
